Born around 1964 in the Tjukurla region of the Gibson Desert, in Western Australia, Barbara Napangardi Reid a Ngaanyatjarra woman began painting in 1987 with the Centre of Aboriginal Artists in Alice Springs. Her art is founded in the world of Tjukurla in the Western Desert and involves the journies of the Tingari women back in the "Dreamtime". They traveled the country creating natural features, laws, Minyma (stories) and songs for the benefit of humans and their survival. Barbara has become widely accepted for her unique style
Barbara's distinctive works depict her traditional country in the Gibson Desert, many of her paintings show Puli (rock formations) and tali (sand hills) which are numerous in this country and of women's ceremonial stories related to the formation of the natural environment around Tjukurla.
