A long time ago kuniya came to uluru bringing her eggs stuck to her neck with glue and settled on the eastern side. However, liru, the poisonous snake species came from the west and a big fight developed, the scars of which are still visible on "the rock". Eventualy, kuniya triumphed and laid her eggs. Kuniya is still a very strong totem at uluru and as they are snakes and it is the female snake that lay eggs, the eastern side of uluru contains a womens' sacred site which belongs to all women of the world.

Rodger Reminesses In This Painting The Many Blissful Nights He Has Slept Under The Stars After A Good Night Around The Campfire. He Imagines His Ancesters Similarly Reclined And Enjoying The Same Magnificent Heavens. Dominating All, To The South The Most Spectacular Constellation Of Them All, "The Southern Cross". The Five Main Stars Of The Southern Cross-Are Depicted Here By The Concentric Circles .
Rodger Is Hopeful That Viewers Of The Southern Cross Will Be Drawn To Remember The People Who Were Here Before, Their Life Style And Their Culture. The Painting Represents Another Direction For Rodger As He Has Parted From His Usual Use Of Four Basic Colours To Present A Very Hypnotic And Haunting Painting In Its Simplicity.
