Born at Haasts Bluff in the mid '50s, his mother was Anmatyerre and his father Warlpiri. His early life was spent learning traditional ways of survival, law and ceremony.Barney Daniels Tjungurrayi and he received some European schooling at Mungana, near Alice Springs.
The snake, blue tongued lizard, Bush Fire, Centipede, Witchetty Grub and Bush Tucker Dreamings were handed down to him just as had been done over past generations providing a direct link to his Dreamtime ancestors.
Barney was a prolific and highly creative artist who began to paint in the mid 80's and he described himself as self taught. He was exceptionally innovative with colour and the creation of atmospheric moods. The stippled brushwork of the background often set the mood of the painting which invariably laid the groundwork for the recurring theme of the cycle of life, death and regeneration.
Sadly we lost Barney to throat Cancer in 1998 and his works which were long accepted as never ending in supply have since become scarce to obtain, and much more sought after
